Distinctive and intense
Strong and nutty in flavour with a slightly bitter note – this is what makes the hazelnut a popular baking ingredient for cakes and biscuits. But distilled and aged in wooden barrels, it makes a delicious schnapps speciality – Old Hazelnut.
Widespread and well-known
This popular nut variety has been around for thousands of years and thrives almost all over Europe. The nuts, which usually grow on metre-high bushes, are harvested in September. They are then dried for a few weeks before being processed in the Prinz Distillery.
Maceration and distillation
To enhance the distinctive flavour of the nuts, we roast them before maceration. Maceration involves soaking the nuts in alcohol which releases wonderful fragrances that fill our entire distillery. Double distilled, the incredibly aromatic hazelnut distillate is first stored in stoneware and then in wooden barrels, enhancing its characteristic mildness and golden-yellow colour.

Nutty-chocolaty seduction
The nose of this schnapps is dominated by intense, delicately fragrant hazelnut notes; on the palate, it is decidedly soft and mild. Fine, tart tones of nut, chocolate and caramel form the flavour highlights of this speciality – a full-bodied sensation that lingers long in the finish!
Enjoyment recommendation: Enjoy Old Hazelnut as a digestif in a Schnapps Glass at a temperature of between 17 and 21°C. For a particularly intense taste experience, add a whole hazelnut to the glass! Or if you like it a little fruitier, why not try our Old House Plum, or Old Cherry?
